About Darfur

Darfurian Refugee CampDarfur is a region of Sudan, Africa with a population of approximately 6.5 million people. Since February 2003, Darfur has been embroiled in a deadly conflict. At least 400,000 people have been killed and more than 2 million innocent civilians have been forced to flee their homes. Millions now live in displaced persons camps in Sudan or in refugee camps in Chad. More than 3.5 million men, women and children completely rely upon international humanitarian aid for their survival.

A Child In A Refugee CampNotwithstanding two cease fires and an internationally brokered Peace Agreement in May 2006, the situation continues to worsen. In addition, humanitarian aid agencies face serious obstacles trying to bring life sustaining food, water, medical supplies and shelter to the victims. International experts agree that the United Nations Security Council must immediately deploy a peacekeeping force to protect the civilians. Until that occurs, however, the under-funded and overwelmed African Union Mission must be supported and secure access must be provided to ensure humantiarian aid for the millions of people in need.
